Réflexions autour des Haïkus – 俳句を巡る考察 –
カルル・マズロが初めて日本に訪れたのは2013年でした。この旅の中で様々な場所を訪れ、人々と出会い感じ得たイメージをもとに100点以上のジュエリーを制作しています。そして、今年の7月よりヴィラ九条山のレジデントとして再び来日することとなりました。彼のヴィラ九条山でのプロジェクト「Réflexions autour des Haïkus – 俳句を巡る考察 -」は日本滞在中に出会った人たちに問いかけることで、俳句という短詩の表現をジュエリー・デザインに移し替えるもので、一連の鏨（たがね）を制作し、素材を知ることから始まりました。
プロジェクトの一環として清課堂を訪れ、貴重な素材と対面し、探求心を覚え、清課堂の職人たちと日仏文化を共有し、制作におけるヴィジョンや技を学び共同制作を始めました。本展覧会では彼自身が制作した鏨やスケッチとともに共同制作の作品と、ジュエリーを発表いたします。カルル・マズロの世界をお楽しみください。
※この展覧会は、カルル・マズロがヴィラ九条山滞在時に進められたプロジェクトです。ヴィラ九条山は、フランス語教育と日仏文化交流に努めるフランス政府公式文化機関であるアンスティチュ・フランセ日本の5つの支部の1つになり、ベタンクール・シューラー財団とアンスティチュ・フランセの支援を受けています。

カルル・マズロ/ Karl Mazlo
パリ在住 宝飾デザイナー
1986年、アーティスト一家に生まれる。2016年7月から10月、ヴィラ九条山に滞在。
宝石・宝飾品加工の技術を学んだ後、ブール工芸学院で、ジュエリーの石留め技術や彫金細工を習得。その後、芸術愛好家のクライアント達のために、彼らの感性を捉えその感性を取り込んだ、1点もののアクセサリーを制作。また、彼の父が教示したマズロ家の技をもって、一つの金属の塊から個人的なコレクションも制作している。

Réflexions autour des Haïkus
Karl Mazlo wishes to transpose the poetic form of the haiku into original jewellery pieces,
using his skills and techniques and sharing his experiences with local artists and craftsmen.
The same way a calligrapher would travel with his brushes, he brought to Japan a series of chisels he made especially for this occasion,
in order to facilitate the start of a dialogue about goldsmithery and metalwork.
Each chisel has a unique shape and design, a very specific pattern and strength that will leave its mark on the metal like so many strokes on a poetic composition.
Through the rich variety of textures and details which allows multiple levels of interpretation, each piece of jewellery aims to arouse the imagination. Karl Mazlo’s stay at Villa Kujoyama, with the help of the people he met along the way, allowed him to pursue further the development of his practice.
Objets de rencontre
Following his first encounter with Japan in 2013, Karl Mazlo created over a hundred jewellery pieces. As a new step in his will to materialize, through the creation of original pieces, the French and Japanese cultures and influences in his practice, he joined for a few months Seikadou, a traditional workshop specialised in Japanese metal arts. Much more than a simple exchange of techniques and skills, his collaboration with Seikadou’s craftsmen will allow both parties to share their vision of metal work and creation.
Bio
Karl Mazlo
Born in 1986 in an artist family, Karl Mazlo lives and works in Paris as an author-jeweller. He studied jewellery design and jewellery making through the techniques of chiselling, engraving and gem-setting at the Ecole Boulle – school of fine art and crafts – in Paris. He has been since creating unique pieces, for private individuals, art lovers, transposing their wishes and sensitivities into a personalised work of art. In parallel, he develops various series of objects, following his most diverse inspirations, starting from a metal ingot which will be laminated, refined, sculpted, in accordance with the traditional techniques he learnt from his father in the family workshop.
Karl Mazlo was a resident at Villa Kujoyama in 2016.

Participation in NUIT BLANCHE KYOTO 2016
Seikado has continued to converse and exchange with various countries in order to promote the world of metal arts and learn about culture and crafts through the medium of metal. Seikado has a history of exchange with France, and the opening of NUIT BLANCHE in Kyoto, a sister city of Paris, means that this year we are able to once again welcome French artists to participate.
* NUIT BLANCHE: an annual one-night modern art festival held every Autumn in Paris, France.

Réflexions autour des Haïkus
Karl Mazlo vise à retranscrire, à l’aide de ses savoir-faire, l’expression de cette forme poétique qu’est le haïku, en échangeant avec des artisans et artistes rencontrés
lors de son séjour au Japon. A cette fin, il a forgé une collection de ciselets aux formes diverses, tels les pinceaux d’un calligraphe, pour ouvrir le début d’un dialogue autour la matière. Chaque outil a une taille, un trait, un motif et une force bien spécifiques, et est appelé à découper et façonner le métal selon les partitions du langage poétique.
Ces bijoux aspirent à éveiller l’imaginaire, grâce à la multiplicité des textures et détails qui autorisent différentes lectures de l’objet. Le séjour de Karl Mazlo à la Villa Kujoyama, riche en rencontres et en échanges, lui permet de développer cette pratique du bijou.
Objets de rencontre
Depuis 2013, Karl à créé plus d’une centaine de bijoux suite à sa première rencontre avec le Japon. Il a aujourd’hui l’ambition d’aller plus loin dans sa démarche en scellant dans la matière précieuse ces rares moments de partage entre les cultures japonaise et française. En intégrant la maison Seikadô, spécialisée dans le travail traditionnel des métaux, il collabore avec ses artisans dans la création de nouvelles pièces, partageant leurs techniques artisanales ainsi que leurs visions de la création.
Bio
Karl Mazlo Né en 1986 au sein d’une famille d’artistes, Karl Mazlo réside et travaille a Paris en tant que Joailler Auteur. Il a étudié l’art du bijou et du joyau puis acquiert
les techniques de la ciselure, de la gravure et du sertissage à l’Ecole Boulle. Depuis, il créé des bijoux uniques, pour des particuliers amateurs d’arts,
captant leurs sensibilités pour la retranscrire dans une œuvre qui leur correspond.
Parallèlement il développe des collections d’objets au gré de ses inspirations, partant d’un lingot de métal qui sera laminé, limé, sculpté suivant les règles de l’art que lui a enseignées son père dans l’atelier familial.
Karl Mazlo a séjourné à la Villa Kujoyama de juillet à octobre 2016.

Seikado, par le biais du matériau même, le métal, est attaché à enrichir et nourrir la culture et le savoir-faire des métiers d’artisanat du métal multipliant pour ce faire les possibilités d’échanges avec les différents pays.Kyoto, ville partenaire de Paris, accueillera de nouveau cette année la « NUIT BLANCHE ».
Seikado se joindra à cet événement, ayant le plaisir de présenter des artistes français.
